ABBEY DESIGNER AWARDS

As part of its ‘Designer Day’ initiative, Abbey Board recently staged a competition for the best corrugated board design in three separate categories.

“The interest created by our ‘Designer Day’ programme last year encouraged us to stage this ‘Designer Award’ competition,” said John Blackburn, Abbey’s sales and marketing director. “And we have been so impressed with the volume and quality of the entries; we have decided to make this competition an annual event.

The entries were judged by James Bladon of Bladon Box who was clearly impressed with the overall standard of the designs.

The Live Product Award went to David Price of DS Celtic for his top opening stud transit and display carton. “I liked the way in which the product was retained with only 4mm of area to grip the product, yet without affecting critical areas of the stud. Great use of NE flute in a conventional manner.”

Noel Curedale of Style Pack won the Blue Sky Award and he also won a special commendation for his twin wine pack, which James Bladon described as; “…a
brilliant yet simple pack to hold bottles when in use yet ensures that the brand or company name is constantly in view.”

“…good board usage, product visibility and wine pack storage,” won the Wine Holder Award for Simon Bennion of Derwent Packaging. His clever use of interior waste to create carry handles and the interior pack fitments especially impressed the Judge.
